Sudan’s military-led government has started relocating its Ministries from Port Sudan

Sudan’s military-led government has started relocating its Ministries from Port Sudan back to the capital, Khartoum, with full government operations expected to resume by early next year.

The Ministry of Tourism and Culture is the latest department to make the move, following a directive issued by the cabinet. Several other ministries are expected to follow as part of the phased return.

Government officials say the Ministries will not operate from historic government buildings in central Khartoum, many of which were damaged during fighting or remain unsafe after months of conflict.

The government temporarily shifted its operations to Port Sudan after intense fighting erupted in Khartoum between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, which have been locked in a protracted conflict since April 2023.

Authorities say the relocation marks a step towards restoring administrative functions in the capital, although security and infrastructure challenges remain.
