Darfur Regional Governor and Sudan Liberation Movement leader Minni Arko Minawi has urged communities along the Sudan–Chad border to stand their ground.
The statement came as fears grow of renewed attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Minawi warned residents in North Darfur against abandoning their homes.
He says any withdrawal would leave the area exposed to what he described as invading forces.
