Three of Sudan’s leading football clubs, Al-Merrikh SC, Al Hilal SC, and Al Ahli SC Wad Madani, have approached Rwandan football authorities seeking permission to compete in the country’s Premier League.
Officials from the Rwanda Football Association and the Premier League Board confirmed that they have received formal applications from the clubs. A joint meeting is expected later this week to consider the requests.
The teams have been sidelined from domestic competitions due to the ongoing civil conflict in Sudan. As a result, the Sudanese national side has also been forced to play its Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifying matches in Libya and Tanzania.
