Sudan’s war continues to uproot millions
As Sudan’s war continues to uproot millions, women in Port Sudan are finding ways to survive and to lead.
Displaced from their homes, many are rebuilding livelihoods through small businesses and community networks, sustaining families amid uncertainty.
In a quiet corner of Port Sudan, as the city absorbs waves of displaced people, resilience is taking shape, one loaf of bread, one stitched dress, one determined woman at a time.
Thousands of displaced women are rebuilding life from almost nothing, sustaining families through bakeries, tailoring co-operatives, and small street businesses.
For many, these small businesses are more than income, they are lifelines.
They pay for food, rent, and school supplies, while restoring a sense of dignity and control in lives disrupted by conflict.
Behind the scenes, local organisations are helping turn determination into stability, offering skills training, seed funding, and safe spaces for women to work and support one another.
