Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) said on Monday that it seized full control of Babanusa, a transport junction in the country’s oil-producing South
A social media video released on Monday showed armed men in RSF uniforms firing their guns and cheering outside a gate with an Arabic signage, reading, second Sudanese Armed Forces Infantry Division, Babanusa. Reuters was able to confirm the location of the video by the gate, signage, buildings and trees that matched file and satellite imagery. Although Reuters was not able to confirm the exact date of footage, foliage from trees around the area match recent satellite captures. The RSF also announced it had captured the 22nd SAF Infantry Division in Babanusa on Monday.
Reuters was able to confirm the insignia on uniforms worn by people seen on the video matching those worn by RSF fighters in file images.  In a statement, the RSF said its “liberation” of Babanusa in West Kordofan state”  the latest frontline in the war in Sudan  came as it repelled “a surprise attack” by the Sudanese army in what it called “a clear violation of the humanitarian truce.” On November 19, United States President Donald Trump said he would intervene to stop the conflict, which broke out in April 2023
