Former world number one, Iga Swiatek of Poland, swept past Russia’s Diana Shnaider 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the semifinals of the Canadian Open tennis tournament in Toronto.

She will square off against Elina Svitolina of Ukraine who rallied past Russian, Ekaterina Alexandrova, in three sets.Swiatek is rediscovering the form that brought her six Grand Slam titles.

So far, she’s only dropped one set the entire tournament, a confidence boosting display ahead of the United States (US) Open.Swiatek has one US open under her belt which she won in 2022 at Flushing Meadows.

Svitolina had to work much harder in her quarter final, she lost the opening set and then came storming back in the second taking it six-love and continued the momentum.

Alexandrova, who knocked out world number one Aryna Sabalenka earlier, failed to regain momentum, and Svitolina wrapped up the match 6-3 in the final set.

Swiatek leads the head-to-head count against Svitolina while the Ukrainian has won the last meeting between the two.
