Tanzania welcomes 183 Member Parliaments for 153rd IPU Assembly in Arusha

More than 2 000 parliamentary delegates and global lawmakers from 183 member nations have gathered in Tanzania’s diplomatic hub of Arusha for the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

The five-day international summit, taking place at the Arusha International Conference Centre from October 5 to 9, 2026, focuses on fostering good governance, empowering local communities, and strengthening international parliamentary co-operation.

Host country delegates and international representatives underscored the significance of the global gathering for parliamentary diplomacy across the continent. Key sessions on the agenda address regional security, peacebuilding, climate resilience, and strategies to expand economic and political opportunities for youth and women.

Beyond legislative dialogue, hosting the major assembly delivers a significant boost to Tanzania’s conference tourism sector and reinforces Arusha’s standing as a central hub for international diplomacy in East Africa.

The assembly will conclude on October 9, following the adoption of statutory resolutions and joint declarations on global governance.
