President Samia Suluhu Hassan has invited former Ivory Coast striker and Chelsea Football Club legend Didier Drogba to serve as Tanzania’s Ambassador ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The request was made during a meeting at the Chamwino State House in Dodoma, shortly after Drogba’s arrival in the country.

Samia also directed the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports to work closely with the football icon, particularly in sharing expertise on the management and development of sports academies.

Drogba welcomed the invitation, expressing gratitude to Samia and signalling his willingness to support Tanzania’s sports development initiatives.
