Tanzania’s Vice President Doctor Emmanuel Nchimbi has resigned.
Nchimbi announced his resignation on Tuesday, citing a prior promise to step down whenever President Samia Suluhu Hassan desired a political change.
His departure follows growing media pressure and a controversial speech he made a month ago, which urged human rights groups to actively fight for a new national constitution.
He has decided to retire from politics and public service.
