Kigoma in western Tanzania, Simon Sirro, has issued a strict seven-day ultimatum to residents hiding undocumented migrants

The Regional Commissioner for Kigoma in western Tanzania, Simon Sirro, has issued a strict seven-day ultimatum to residents hiding undocumented migrants to ensure they return to their home countries.

The security directive targets illegal immigration within the strategic border region of Kigoma, which sits on the shores of Lake Tanganyika and shares direct borders with Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Authorities have warned that severe legal action will be taken against any Tanzanian citizens found flouting the order once the deadline expires.

Kigoma Regional Commissioner Simon Sirro explains that the sweeping security measure is necessary to maintain stability and ensure immigration laws are strictly enforced in the border zone.

“Within these seven days, anyone who knows they are hosting an undocumented migrant must report them or ensure they leave. We cannot compromise on the security and laws of our country, and those who continue to harbour illegal individuals after this window will face the full wrath of the law.”
