Tanzania’s opposition leader Tundu Lissu’s Chadema party has maintained that the treason trial is political.
This as Lissu returned to the High Court in Dar es Salaam after a five-month delay.
The case had been on hold since February due to a prosecution appeal, but proceedings have now moved into the evidentiary stage following a ruling by the Court of Appeal.
He faces charges of treason linked to remarks about the country’s general elections.
