Tanzania’s election probe
A commission appointed by the Tanzanian government and chaired by Mohamed Chande Othman has concluded that the deadly violence following last 2025 Presidential election was driven by well-trained agitators.
The commission says unrest happened with the help of external support, and that state authorities were not responsible.
The commission reported that 518 people died from “unnatural causes” during the unrest, including 197 who were shot dead, amid widespread protests after the general election.
However, opposition parties and human rights organisations have disputed the findings.
