Tensions have escalated in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) after the assassination of the M23 Group Spokesperson.
The latest attacks in eastern DRC are a sign that the much talked about ceasefire is not holding.
However, there’s been no word from the regional organisation or the African Union on the conflict escalation.
The conflict is continuing unabated. The DRC supported by Burundi launched attacks directed at M23 rebels who are supported by the Rwandan government.
There was a glimmer of hope after the DRC government agreed to a ceasefire on the margins of the AU summit in Addis Ababa.
Meanwhile, South Africa announced the withdrawal of troops that were deployed in the DRC as part of the United Nations peacekeepers.
The recent killing of the M23 Group Spokesperson has sparked fears that tension in the Great Lakes region will escalate.
