undocumented Zimbabwean nationals in South Africa
A group of 32 undocumented Zimbabwean nationals, including young children and infants, have been detained after the bus they were travelling in was stopped on the N1 near Bloemfontein Free State Province on Thursday night.
The interception forms part of intensified Easter weekend road safety operations by the Free State government.
Authorities say the bus was en route to Cape Town when it was pulled over at a roadblock.
Free State Member of Executive Council for Community Safety, Roads and Transport, Jabu Mbalula, confirmed that among those detained are babies as young as four months old.
From those who were documented concerns of human trafficking were also raised as some mothers were travelling with children with different surnames from them.
Others had passports yet their children were undocumented.
