Landlocked Zambia’s economic survival depends heavily on maintaining strong, strategic relationships with coastal neighbours like Tanzania, public policy specialist Dr Albanie Marcossy told Africa Update as vote counting continues following the August 13 general elections.

Speaking in an interview on the show, Marcossy pointed out that incumbent President Hakainde Hichilema’s focus on cross-border trade, regional diplomacy, and internal economic fixes, like steadying the Kwacha, has played a massive role in winning over voters.

While Hichilema holds a comfortable lead over his closest rivals, Marcossy warned that total transparency during this final phase of counting is essential if the commission wants everyone to trust the final result.
