Tributes are pouring in for Zimbabwe’s renowned poet and opposition lawmaker Desire Moyo, who died in a road accident on Friday. He was 45.
Moyo was killed instantly when the vehicle he was travelling in hit an elephant along the Bulawayo–Gweru highway. He was travelling with four other Members of Parliament, who sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
Known for his powerful poetry and social commentary, Moyo was widely respected for his contribution to Zimbabwe’s arts and cultural scene. Colleagues and admirers have described him as a fearless voice for justice and creativity, whose work bridged the gap between art and activism.
Messages of condolence have continued to pour in from across the political and cultural spectrum, celebrating his legacy as both an artist and a public servant.
