Uganda’s Ministry of Health on Saturday said the two latest cases were identified in Kampala and involve Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) nationals.
According to the Ministry, one patient was quickly isolated after showing symptoms linked to Ebola. The second case had already been identified through contact tracing after exposure to an earlier confirmed case.
The new cases come amid growing regional concern over the worsening Ebola situation in neighbouring DRC.
The Kampala cases have added to concern over movement between Uganda and eastern DRC, with health authorities seeking to prevent further imported infections.
Authorities have also temporarily closed parts of Uganda’s border with eastern DRC in response to the outbreak. The border measure is aimed at reducing the risk of additional imported cases as Uganda responds to the latest infections.
