Law Society of Uganda has announced plans to take the government to court

The Law Society of Uganda has announced plans to take the government to court over the bilateral agreement with the United States (US) that allows non-national deportees to be sent to Uganda.

On Thursday, the first group of deportees from the US arrived at Entebbe International Airport migrants whom the US cannot return to their home countries.

Lawyer Eron Kiiza told the media the deportation is illegal, describing the arrangement as a “personalised deal” made without public consultation or involvement of the legislature in either country. He added that both governments appeared unconcerned with procedural requirements.
