Yoweri Museveni has been sworn in for a seventh term as President of Uganda

Yoweri Museveni has been sworn in for a seventh term as President of Uganda, extending his rule into a fifth decade.

The 81-year-old leader, who has governed Uganda since 1986 after taking power as a former guerrilla commander, was declared the winner of the January presidential election with 72% of the vote.

The election, however, was overshadowed by reports of violence and allegations of electoral fraud from critics and opposition groups.

Ahead of the inauguration, the Uganda Law Society raised concerns about the process, arguing that constitutional and legal requirements linked to the January 15, 2026, election had not been fully satisfied.

Deputy President of the Uganda Law Society Anthony Asiimwe said the organisation had not yet seen an official final report from the electoral commission confirming all aspects of the election outcome.
