The United Nations (UN) has warned in a new report that fewer than half of the national targets set to protect the world’s plants, animals and ecosystems are on track.
This is just days before countries gather in Yerevan, Armenia, for the COP17 biodiversity conference.
Presenting the findings of the State of Biodiversity Action report on Thursday, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said, fewer than half of national biodiversity targets are on track.
He noted that the current pace has only 26% of terrestrial ecosystems, and 12% of marine ecosystems that would be protected by 2030.
