South Africa’s (SA) Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana says for the first time in a decade, power utility Eskom has recorded a profit and few days of power cuts

He however says the escalating municipal debt poses a risk to the power utility’s improved financial performance this year. Godongwana tabled the 2025 Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement in Parliament where he outlined the country’s achievements.

“Not long ago, our country was on the brink of energy crisis. Unreliable electricity supply threatened to derail our economy and the transformation of our society I am pleased to say we have avoided this scenario and instead have begun a march towards reliable supply of energy, load shedding has significantly come down,” he said.
