International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola has emphasised South Africa’s (SA) commitment to principle-based leadership at home and abroad, following dramatic developments in Latin America.
Lamola says the South African government was taken aback by the posture adopted by the United States (US) , describing it as a violation of the United Nations (UN) Charter, Venezuela’s territorial integrity, and the principles that should govern respect for the sovereignty of states.
He adds that SA has called for an urgent sitting of the UN Security Council and says the government is looking forward to the meeting scheduled for later on Monday afternoon.
