Top Ugandan military sources have confirmed that United States (US) President Donald Trump has formally approached President Yoweri Museveni to request Uganda’s assistance in establishing an International Peace and Stability Force for the Gaza Strip.
The proposal, submitted through Trump’s Board of Peace, seeks Uganda’s support in contributing troops to help maintain order and stability in the war-torn enclave.
Speaking from Kampala in an exclusive interview with Abedi Jean de la Croix, Mzee Mike Arereng, former Head of Channel Africa’s Kiswahili Service, provided key insight into how the Ugandan leadership has received Washington’s request.
Arereng outlined Museveni’s response to the American initiative, noting Uganda’s extensive experience in international peacekeeping, particularly through its long-standing deployments in Somalia and the wider Great Lakes region, while highlighting the delicate diplomatic balance required for a mission in the Middle East.
“Museveni has always taken a considered approach to foreign military engagements. While Uganda remains a proven partner in global peacekeeping, any participation in Gaza would depend on clear multilateral frameworks, a defined mandate, and the overall security of Ugandan troops,” said Arereng.
