JD Vance could travel to the capital city of Pakistan

United States (US) Vice President JD Vance could travel to the capital city of Pakistan,  Islamabad for in-person talks with Iranian officials if both sides can reach a peace deal, according to reports.

Iranian state news agency IRNA says Tehran has rejected the US’s proposal for a ceasefire and is instead pushing for a permanent end to the war.

With hours to go until President Donald Trump’s deadline for Iran to make a deal, Tehran has proposed terms of its own.

The proposal, reports say, has been communicated through Islamabad.

The main demand is a permanent end to the conflict instead of a ceasefire.

But Tehran is also seeking a protocol for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, the lifting of sanctions, and reconstruction, all part of a ten-point framework.

If a peace deal is agreed upon, reports say it would be in the form of a memorandum of understanding.

And will be finalised electronically via Islamabad. Pakistan has not confirmed these reports but says it remains engaged with both sides

Pakistan has emerged as the de-facto intermediary between Washington and Tehran, with Field Marshal Asim Munir, the country’s Army Chief playing a key role.

Reports say he’s in direct contact with top US leaders including Vance and special envoy Steve Witkoff as well as Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

All eyes are now on the US’s next move and Trump has already said that the initial proposal was just one of the things he’s been considering.
