WAFCON promises plenty of excitement after Thursday’s draw

The 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) promises plenty of excitement after Thursday’s draw delivered blockbuster group clashes.

Nigeria, the defending champions, headline Group C and will face Zambia once again, a side they thrashed 5-0 on their way to last year’s title. The Super Falcons, eyeing a record 11th crown, also take on Egypt and newcomers Malawi, making for a group full of contrasting styles and challenges.

Hosts Morocco find themselves in a tantalising Group A. A North African derby against Algeria will open the tournament, with Senegal and Kenya completing the group. The Atlas Lionesses will be under pressure to perform at home for the third consecutive edition.

Group D looks set to be the most unpredictable. Ghana will meet Cameroon, Mali, and debutants Cape Verde, promising drama and surprises from start to finish.

With these matchups, fans can expect a WAFCON filled with fierce battles, unexpected twists, and plenty of moments to remember.
