A Ministerial meeting of the United Nations (UN) Security Council has heard that despite a ceasefire in Gaza, the enclave was still not at peace, while the situation in the occupied West Bank was deteriorating rapidly.
UN under Secretary General for Political and Peace Building Affairs called for collective action to implement the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire ahead of United States President Donald Trump’s meeting of the Board of Peace in Washington later Thursday.
This meeting followed a joint statement by over 80 UN Ambassadors condemning Israel’s unilateral decisions and measures aimed at expanding its unlawful presence in the occupied West Bank.
Council was informed that this was a pivotal moment for the Middle East but despite a ceasefire in place and aid into the enclave scaled up, it’s still not enough, the population remains displaced under extremely harsh living conditions.
While Israeli military action continues to kill dozens of Palestinians, including many women and children and attacks by Palestinians against Israelis have also continued.
