Proteas Women have wrapped up their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup preparations

Proteas Women have wrapped up their International Cricket Council Women’s T20 World Cup preparations in dominant fashion, beating India by 23 runs in the final match in Benoni to seal a 4-1 series victory.

Having already secured the series with three successful run chases in Durban and Johannesburg, South Africa (SA) shifted approach in the final game, choosing to bat first for a different kind of test.

The move paid off, with captain Laura Wolvaardt once again at the heart of the performance, anchoring the innings and guiding her side to a competitive total on a tricky surface.

Wolvaardt admitted afterwards that while the batting effort was solid, SA still need to improve their partnerships in the middle order.

“We set ourselves goals to build better partnerships. I think one strong stand would have pushed us closer to 165, which would have been a really good score,” she said. “It was a slightly tricky wicket with inconsistent bounce, but overall I was happy with how the bowlers defended it.”
