empowerment of Women continues to occupy a central position in SA
The South African (SA) President Cyril Ramaphosa says the empowerment of women continues to occupy a central position in SA’s national development agenda, aligning with global calls to address deepening inequalities.
His remarks come in the wake of the recently released G20 report, chaired by renowned American economist Professor Joseph Stiglitz, which underscores an escalating global crisis of inequality.
The report draws attention to persistent structural barriers such as the gender wage gap, limited female participation in the labour market, and the prevalence of gender-based violence.
Addressing delegates at the International Women’s Forum Cornerstone Conference in Cape Town, Western Cape Province, Ramaphosa emphasised the urgency of transforming commitments into tangible outcomes that advance women’s leadership and economic inclusion.
His address also served as a precursor to the forthcoming G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, Gauteng Province, where gender equity and inclusive growth are expected to feature prominently on the agenda.
