Zambia opposition leaders Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu appear in court

Leaders of Zambia’s opposition coalition, Tonse Alliance, Brian Mundubile and his deputy Makebi Zulu, have appeared before the Solwezi Magistrate’s Court facing charges of seditious practices.

During court proceedings, the court rejected a procedural application from the defense seeking to present oral evidence directly at this stage of the preliminary trial. The trial involves allegations that the pair incited public unrest and attempted to mobilise anti-government resistance following recent political developments.

Mundubile and Zulu, who were ferried to Solwezi under heavy police escort from Mukobeko Maximum Correctional Facility, are also facing separate treason charges.
