Zambian court rejects application by opposition Leaders

In Zambia, the Solwezi Magistrate’s Court in the North-Western Province has ruled that it lacks the jurisdiction to hear the case involving Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu, senior figures in the opposition alliance Tonse Pamodzi.

Mundubile, who leads the National Restoration and Progressive Unity Party, and his presidential running mate Zulu were appearing before the court when the magistrate ruled that the matter fell outside the court’s legal authority. Speaking after the proceedings in Solwezi, Tonse Pamodzi alliance official Maxon Nkhoma confirmed the court’s decision, which now leaves the prosecution considering its next legal steps.

The ruling marks a significant legal pause for the opposition leaders as political tensions and legal battles build ahead of upcoming political engagements.
