Zambia’s Vice President, Dr Mutale Nalumango, has survived a helicopter crash in Nakonde, located near the northern border with Tanzania.

The incident reportedly occurred shortly after take-off while her was traveling as part of a campaign tour ahead of Zambia’s upcoming general elections.

Emergency services and local authorities have secured the site of the crash. While details surrounding the cause of the aviation accident remain scarce, preliminary reports confirm that Nalumango and her immediate entourage escaped without sustaining life-threatening injuries.

Government officials are expected to issue a formal statement detailing the condition of the crew and passengers, as well as the status of the upcoming campaign schedule.
