Zimbabwe African People’s Union (ZAPU) Secretary-General Mthulisi Hanana has called on Zimbabweans, including those in the diaspora, to mobilise against the ruling ZANU-PF’s move to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s tenure until 2030.
Mnangagwa, who took office in 2017, is constitutionally limited to two terms.
Addressing the media at the Zimbabwe Diaspora Press Conference, Hanana and other opposition voices strongly opposed the proposed extension.
“As Zimbabweans we come together even from foreign lands and we are also encouraging others in different parts of the world to do the same, to mobilize themselves and mobilize Zimbabweans and come up with strategies so that we are able at the right time to peacefully protest against the government of Zimbabwe and what they are doing. Considering as well that they won the 2023 elections under a shrouded cloud of mischief. The elections according to some of us they were not free, they were not fair.”
