Passport-free travel for Zimbabwe and Botswana citizens

Zimbabwe and Botswana are set to usher in passport-free travel for their citizens.

This will allow nationals to move between the two countries using their national Identity Documents.

The new arrangement was confirmed in Harare by Presidents Emmerson Mnangagwa and Duma Boko during the signing of a series of agreements, aimed at strengthening trade ties and easing the movement of people and goods across their shared border.

Additional accords covered defence cooperation, cross-border security and investment promotion.

The development reflects the two nations’ growing commitment to regional integration, as they seek to harness opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Security matters featured prominently in the discussions, particularly the rising threat of synthetic drug with both sides calling for stronger co-operation to combat cross-border criminal networks.

President Boko is expected to conclude his three-day state visit by officiating at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair in Bulawayo.
