Zimbabwe Coach withdraws after slapping player ahead of World Cup Qualifier

Chiragwi, who manages Ngezi Platinum Stars and serves as Assistant Coach for the Zimbabwe national team, struck player McDonald Makuwe moments after Dynamos equalised through an own goal by Brooklyn Katumba in the 34th minute on Saturday.

The incident sparked widespread criticism, prompting Chiragwi to step aside ahead of Zimbabwe’s crucial qualifier against Bafana Bafana. He later issued a public apology, admitting that his behaviour was “unacceptable” and had undermined the integrity of the sport.

In his apology, Chiragwi expressed remorse to Makuwe, Ngezi Platinum Stars, the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League, and the Zimbabwe Football Association.
