A court in Zimbabwe has granted bail to opposition leader Tendai Biti, who was arrested near the Mozambique border over the weekend.

Biti, a Former Finance Minister and prominent lawyer, faces charges of holding a public meeting without notifying authorities. He is also the leader of the Constitution Defenders Forum.

According to Jameson Timba, convener of the Defend the Constitution Platform, the arrest has raised concerns among opposition groups about political freedoms in the country.

Further details around the conditions of Biti’s bail have not yet been made public.
