Chatunga was remanded in custody after appearing in court on Monday.
Zimbabweans have expressed mixed feelings regarding the arrest and court appearance of former President Robert Mugabe’s son, Bellarmine “Chatunga”, and co-accused Tobias Mutonje in South Africa (SA) for attempted murder.
Chatunga was remanded in custody after appearing in court on Monday.
While some Zimbabweans sympathise with the mother, Grace Mugabe, who could not travel to SA owing to a warrant of arrest against her, some had no kind words for the behaviour of Chatunga.
Mlondolozi Ndlovu, a media lawyer in Zimbabwe, says, “We are worried about the arrest of one of Grace Mugabe’s children, former President Robert Mugabe’s son. We hope that the law will take its cause and that the family will take lessons from this particular incident. The fact that Grace is not going, of course we have reservations, but it’s also a lesson that the country as it is, SA, respects the rights of all citizens and that the rule of law does exist in SA and that there are lessons for Zimbabweans to take from this incident.”
