From the rolling vineyards of South Africa\u2019s (SA)Stellenbosch to the tasting rooms of Kenya and the sun-kissed cellars of Mauritius, African wine is having its moment, and the Ubuntu Trophy is pouring it all out.<\/div>\n

On December 8, the continent\u2019s top sommeliers will come together at the luxurious Lanzarec Hotel in Stellenbosch for a celebration of skill, teamwork, and pure African hospitality.<\/div>\n

But this isn\u2019t just about sipping wine. Sommeliers will compete in teams representing SA, Zimbabwe, Kenya, and Mauritius, taking on challenges that test speed, precision, creativity, and knowledge. Think pairing vegan meals with the perfect wine, mastering a magnum of champagne across 18 glasses without a spill, or identifying beverages from across the globe, including wine, sake, coffee, teas, and even kombucha.<\/div>\n

\u201cA sommelier isn\u2019t just about wine; it\u2019s about creating an experience,\u201d says Jean Vincent Ridon, founder of the Sommeliers Academy. \u201cWe entertain guests, pair drinks with food, and make people feel part of the culture, whether they drink alcohol or not.\u201d<\/div>\n

The Ubuntu Trophy is about teamwork and continental pride. Past editions have seen fierce but friendly competition, with winners crowned by international judges to ensure world-class standards. This year promises even more flair, with Kenya joining the fray and Mauritius bringing last year\u2019s winning momentum.<\/div>\n
