Sleek minimalist fonts, muted colour palettes, polished photography, and refined interiors have become the default setup for high-end marketing.

Yet as Nomaswazi Phumo, Head of Strategy at Leagas Delaney South Africa, points out, “Premium brands don’t have a quality problem. They have a distinction problem.”

While high-end labels have mastered the art of signaling quality, many have accidentally adopted the exact same aesthetic playbook. Words like “bespoke,” “exclusive,” and “world-class” are thrown around so frequently that they have lost their punch. As Phumo observes, if you remove the logo from most luxury campaigns, the sleek imagery “could comfortably belong to your competitors.”

That lack of individual personality carries real commercial stakes. Research from Kantar’s BrandZ reveals that shoppers are willing to pay an average of 37% more for brands they perceive as meaningfully different. Quality gets a brand into the high-end space, but distinction is what keeps customers coming back.

Local favourite Woolworths stands out as a prime example of distinctiveness done right. While rival supermarkets can match its product offerings, Woolies keeps its edge because every touchpoint, from packaging and product naming to store design, reinforces the exact same recognisable brand identity.

Ultimately, in a market where top-tier quality is automatically expected, luxury labels cannot afford to mistake caution for sophistication. Winning over shoppers takes more than just looking expensive, it requires making bold, deliberate choices, because at the end of the day, everything matters.

–ChannelAfrica/ Leagas Delaney SA–

[398,396,397
post-42445","lifestyle-ent","type-lifestyle-ent","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","featured-post-brands","featured-post-premium","featured-post-woolworths","entry
["GET
