This follows public outrage after a 12-year-old girl gave birth at the Frontier Hospital in Komani on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The father of her baby is reported to be aged 17.<\/p>\n
Two-hundred-and-19 babies were born in the Eastern Cape on New Year\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n
The ANC has called upon relevant stakeholders to intensify the fight against teenage pregnancy.<\/p>\n
ANC Provincial Spokesperson Gift Ngqondi says, \u201cTeenage pregnancy is an emotional matter that needs to be addressed by society at large, as it is broader and also a multifaceted problem that requires a comprehensive intervention.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are calling for conversations regarding teen pregnancies and sexual education as they are important if we want to turn the tide and save our children, especially the girl children, as they tend to carry the consequences should they fall pregnant,\u201d adds Ngqondi.<\/p>\n
