The World Health Organisation (WHO) warns that such products claim numerous lives globally each year, often going undetected. The plan will be unveiled by the SA Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) in collaboration with the National Department of Health and the WHO. Mokgadi Fafudi, SAHPRA\u2019s Head of Regulatory Compliance, will lead the announcement.<\/p>\n
Since 2022, reports and detections of substandard and falsified medicines have been rising sharply. \u201cIn 2022, we recorded just over 100 cases. This nearly doubled in 2023, rose to 430 in 2024, and reached 507 this year,\u201d Fafudi said. \u201cThe upward trend requires urgent action to prevent a potential public health crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n
