The M20 is an independent joint initiative of Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) and the SA National Editors\u2019 Forum (SANEF). It is designed as a platform to interrogate the critical challenges facing the media and information integrity ecosystems in an increasingly complex global environment.<\/p>\n
Key topics on the agenda include the rise of climate change disinformation, the growing threat of artificial intelligence and deepfakes, journalist safety, media viability, and the spread of cyber misogyny. These issues, organisers say, go to the heart of safeguarding democracy, strengthening public trust, and ensuring citizens have access to credible information.<\/p>\n
The summit comes at a time when the role of independent journalism is under strain worldwide, challenged by shrinking revenues, political pressures and the rapid spread of disinformation across digital platforms.<\/p>\n
SABC News will carry live coverage of the summit through its television news channel, online platforms and its streaming service, SABC Plus.<\/p>\n
