The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is set to implement a 4.5% salary increase for non-unionised employees in the 2025\/26 financial year. That\u2019s according to SABC Group Executive for Human Resources, Rachel Masuku, who confirmed the adjustment will take effect from November 1.<\/p>\n

Masuku says the public broadcaster met with the Broadcasting, Electronic, Media & Allied Workers Union (BEMAWU) last week to present the same offer, but is still awaiting formal feedback following the union\u2019s internal consultations.<\/p>\n

She says the organisation remains committed to concluding the process with Bemawu in good faith and will continue to engage constructively to reach finality in relation to the unionised employees.<\/p>\n

In a separate development, Masuku reveals that a restructuring process within the SABC\u2018s sales division could lead to possible retrenchments.<\/p>\n

She has noted that the public broadcaster is reviewing its commercial strategy to improve revenue performance, amid ongoing financial pressures due to rising operational costs and declining advertising revenue.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs part of the efficiencies that we are trying to introduce, in the way we do things, we have had to restructure our operations in sales and how our employees in sales carry out their duties. That restructure might lead to possible retrenchments. It\u2019s not that we want to retrench. However, in line with the Labour Relations Act, if there is a possibility that one or more employees might be retrenched, you need to institute a Section 189,\u201d says Masuku.<\/p>\n
