{"id":13480,"date":"2025-10-22T12:21:53","date_gmt":"2025-10-22T10:21:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jhb-webdevelopers\/channelafrica\/news\/sas-consumer-inflation-rise-slightly-in-september\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T16:26:25","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T14:26:25","slug":"sas-consumer-inflation-rise-slightly-in-september","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/sas-consumer-inflation-rise-slightly-in-september\/","title":{"rendered":"SA&#8217;s consumer inflation rise slightly in September"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">South Africa&#8217;s (SA) consumer inflation rose slightly in September but remains well within the Reserve Bank&#8217;s target range of 3% to 6%.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Annual consumer inflation edged higher to 3.4% in September, from 3.3% in August.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The main contributors to the increase were housing and utilities, as well as food and non-alcoholic beverages.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">On a month-on-month basis, consumer inflation went up by 0.2% in September.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Food and non-alcoholic beverages inflation decreased to 4.5% from 5.2% previously.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">But price changes in the meat, vegetables, fruits and hot beverages categories remain elevated.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The higher meat prices are due to the effects of factors like foot-and-mouth disease, which the livestock industry has been battling.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">In the housing and utilities category, price changes in electricity, gas and other fuels, and water supply remain high.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">While consumer inflation is within the Reserve Bank&#8217;s target range of 3 to 6%, it is moving further from the central bank&#8217;s preferred target of 3%.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">&#8211;Reuters&#8211;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":13481,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false},"news-type":[78,44],"class_list":["post-13480","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","news-type-featured","news-type-finance","entry"],"acf":{"short_description":"","published_date":null,"news_description":"SA consumer inflation rose slightly","form_embed":"","author":"","image_caption":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/13480","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/news"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/13480\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":18584,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/13480\/revisions\/18584"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/13481"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=13480"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"news-type","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news-type?post=13480"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
