The escalation of violence in Cabo Delgado and neighbouring provinces has deepened what remains a prolonged humanitarian crisis.<\/p>\n

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has expanded its medical response in Mueda and surrounding areas, providing healthcare and psychosocial support to thousands of displaced families. Speaking to journalist Lulu Gaboo, Sofia Minetto, MSF\u2019s Field Communications Manager in Mozambique, said the scale and frequency of recent attacks were levels not seen in years.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are witnessing a wave of displacement that has forced nearly 100 000 people to flee since late September,\u201d Minetto said. \u201cMany have been displaced multiple times since the conflict began in 2017, fleeing both violent attacks and fear of further violence.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
MSF teams, active in Mueda since 2021, are currently operating in five displacement camps, focusing on health promotion, medical referrals and mental health support.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are seeing a rise in trauma-related cases, which is why mental health has become a key part of our response,\u201d Minetto explained.<\/p>\n
She noted that the violence has also affected medical personnel, many of whom are among those fleeing. \u201cThe insecurity impacts everyone, including health workers. This creates shortages just as needs are rising,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Minetto emphasised that MSF operates independently, relying on private donations to respond based on medical need. She urged continued international attention to what she described as a neglected humanitarian crisis.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe situation in Cabo Delgado remains volatile, with ongoing attacks spreading into neighbouring provinces. Continued attention and solidarity are essential. All armed actors must respect civilians, health workers and medical facilities to ensure assistance reaches those who need it most,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
