{"id":14521,"date":"2025-11-04T13:53:37","date_gmt":"2025-11-04T11:53:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jhb-webdevelopers\/channelafrica\/news\/cricket-indias-ashwin-out-of-big-bash-league-after-knee-surgery\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T16:27:04","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T14:27:04","slug":"cricket-indias-ashwin-out-of-big-bash-league-after-knee-surgery","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/cricket-indias-ashwin-out-of-big-bash-league-after-knee-surgery\/","title":{"rendered":"Cricket India&#8217;s Ashwin out of Big Bash League after knee surgery"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\" data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will miss what would have been his maiden Big Bash League (BBL) season following a knee surgery.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The 39-year-old shattered a long-standing barrier when he signed with Sydney Thunder in September, becoming the first male Indian player to join the league.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">He quit international cricket last year and ended his Indian Premier League (IPL) career in August, thus freeing himself from the Indian board&#8217;s restrictions that bar male players from participating in franchise cricket elsewhere.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">&#8220;I&#8217;m gutted to miss BBL,&#8221; Ashwin said in a statement issued by his BBL franchise on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">&#8220;My focus now is recovery and coming back stronger. I\u2019m grateful to the Thunder family and the fans for the warmth they\u2019ve already shown me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">&#8220;If rehab and travel plans allow, I\u2019d love to be around the group later in the season and meet the fans.
