Optimism is running high among South Africa\u2019s (SA) subtropical farmers as more than 340 growers gathered in Mpumalanga province for the 20th annual Subtropical Marketing Symposium.<\/p>\n

The event brought together producers, exporters, and marketers to discuss challenges, opportunities, and the future of one of the country\u2019s most dynamic agricultural sectors.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The symposium serves as a key platform for sharing knowledge and exploring strategies to strengthen both the local and international market for subtropical produce, which includes avocados, mangoes, and litchis.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Derek Donkin, Chief Executive Officer of the Subtropical Growers Association, said the meeting is designed to encourage collaboration and help farmers make informed decisions.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cThe programme focuses on providing information that supports strategic decision-making,\u201d he said. \u201cWe look at the economy, promotional strategies, current political developments, and technical issues such as the use of chemicals. Farmers come not only to gain insights but also to network, to speak with exporters, marketers, and import service providers. It\u2019s about building relationships and finding opportunities to grow the industry.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
With the global demand for subtropical fruit on the rise, local farmers say co-operation and innovation will be crucial in taking SA\u2019s production and exports to the next level.<\/p>\n
