{"id":14967,"date":"2025-11-11T05:29:57","date_gmt":"2025-11-11T03:29:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jhb-webdevelopers\/channelafrica\/news\/arrest-warrant-issued-for-nigerias-former-oil-minister-over-fraud-charges\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T16:27:21","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T14:27:21","slug":"arrest-warrant-issued-for-nigerias-former-oil-minister-over-fraud-charges","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/arrest-warrant-issued-for-nigerias-former-oil-minister-over-fraud-charges\/","title":{"rendered":"Arrest warrant issued for Nigeria\u2019s former Oil Minister over fraud charges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nigeria&#8217;s anti-graft agency said on Monday a warrant has been issued for the arrest of former Petroleum Minister Timipre Sylva over allegations of conspiracy and dishonest conversion of $14.86 million.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The funds were part of an investment by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board into Atlantic International Refinery and Petrochemical Ltd for a refinery project, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It urged anyone with information on Sylva\u2019s whereabouts to contact its offices nationwide or report to the nearest police station.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sylva served as Petroleum Minister from 2019 to 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A Federal High Court in Lagos issued the arrest warrant for Sylva on November 6, granting the EFCC authority to detain him for questioning, the agency said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sylva, who was also former Bayelsa State Governor, could not immediately be reached for comment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Justice D.I.
