{"id":15191,"date":"2025-11-13T11:12:47","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T09:12:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jhb-webdevelopers\/channelafrica\/news\/sa-port-security-concerns-raised\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T16:27:30","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T14:27:30","slug":"sa-port-security-concerns-raised","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/sa-port-security-concerns-raised\/","title":{"rendered":"SA port security concerns raised"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">\n<p class=\"x_elementToProof\"><span style=\"background-color: var(--global--color-background); color: var(--global--color-primary); font-family: var(--global--font-secondary); font-size: var(--global--font-size-base);\">The issue of the safety and security at South Africa&#8217;s (SA) borders came into sharp focus in 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">\n<p class=\"x_elementToProof\">With the G20 nations expected to converge on the country in a few days concerns around safety and security have intensified.<\/p>\n<p>An emphatic plea from an army general for politicians to address the issue of SA\u00a0borders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_elementToProof\">A stark reality of a real threat to safety, that many people especially in border towns have raised.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">\n<p class=\"x_elementToProof\">Cross-border crimes, particularly stock theft along the borders between SA and Lesotho, have risen sharply in recent years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">\n<p class=\"x_elementToProof\">There are eight official ports of entry from Lesotho, yet farmers&#8217; advocacy group Free State Agriculture says it has identified 64 illegal entry points that Lesotho nationals use to gain entry in to the country.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">\n<p class=\"x_elementToProof\">The border is patrolled by the SA National Defence Force and SA Police Service is also present for crime prevention.
