{"id":15478,"date":"2025-11-17T18:53:23","date_gmt":"2025-11-17T16:53:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jhb-webdevelopers\/channelafrica\/news\/australian-mining-company-lays-claim-on-please-call-me-payout\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T16:27:41","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T14:27:41","slug":"australian-mining-company-lays-claim-on-please-call-me-payout","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/australian-mining-company-lays-claim-on-please-call-me-payout\/","title":{"rendered":"Australian mining company lays claim on Please Call Me payout"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South Africa\u2019s (SA) Please call me inventor Nkosana Makate will not be receiving his full payout from Vodacom until the dispute with his previous legal funder is resolved.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Makate\u2019s former legal funder Black Rock Mining Limited recently filed papers in the Johannesburg High Court contesting a claim for 40% of Makate\u2019s multimillion-Rand settlement, estimated at over R500 million ($29 million).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Makate\u2019s lawyers Stemela &amp; Lubbe Inc. have agreed to withhold the 40% until the matter is back in court on December 2, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Makate\u2019s lawyers have told Black Rock Mining that if the matter is postponed, dismissed or struck off then the settlement will be paid out in full.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Black Rock Mining\u2019s attorney, Sinehlanhla Mguni, says, \u201cThere\u2019s been a settlement of Part A of the application, which my client Black Rock Mining brought against Makate, his attorneys, as well as Vodacom, and it has been agreed that Part A no longer needs to be and that the attorneys for Makate will retain 40% of the amount, which Makate received from Vodacom being the same amount that my client alleges or claims is due to it, pending the finalisation of the matter on December the 2nd, 2025 being Part B of our application.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;SABC&#8211;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":15479,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false},"news-type":[44],"class_list":["post-15478","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","news-type-finance","entry"],"acf":{"short_description":"South Africa\u2019s (SA) Please call me inventor Nkosana Makate will not be receiving his full payout from Vodacom","published_date":"2025-11-17 20:52:21","news_description":"South Africa\u2019s (SA) Please call me inventor Nkosana Makate will not be receiving his full payout from Vodacom","form_embed":"","author":"","image_caption":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/15478","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/news"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/15478\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":19698,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/15478\/revisions\/19698"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/15479"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=15478"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"news-type","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news-type?post=15478"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
