{"id":16481,"date":"2025-12-01T14:39:27","date_gmt":"2025-12-01T12:39:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jhb-webdevelopers\/channelafrica\/news\/britain-withdraws-1-15-bln-backing-from-totalenergies-led-mozambique-lng\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T16:31:37","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T14:31:37","slug":"britain-withdraws-1-15-bln-backing-from-totalenergies-led-mozambique-lng","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/britain-withdraws-1-15-bln-backing-from-totalenergies-led-mozambique-lng\/","title":{"rendered":"Britain withdraws $1.15 bln backing from TotalEnergies-led Mozambique LNG"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: var(--global--font-secondary); font-size: var(--global--font-size-base);\">The British government has decided to withdraw its $1.15 billion backing for the TotalEnergies-led Mozambique Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project, it said this Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Britain had promised financial support for the $20 billion project via United Kingdom Export Finance in 2020, shortly before it pledged to stop providing direct government support for overseas fossil fuel projects.<\/p>\n<p>The development had been slated to make Mozambique a major LNG exporter to Europe and Asia, but was halted in 2021 due to an Islamist insurgency.
